Putnam Excavation Services
Putnam is the northeast Quiet Corner's comeback story — a former textile city whose downtown, devastated by the 1955 Quinebaug River flood, has been rebuilt into a thriving antiques and restaurant district. The Quinebaug still runs straight through the center of town, and Cargill Falls remains its landmark. We reach Putnam in about 12 miles, covering both its compact downtown and the residential hills around it.

Working around Putnam's river and dense downtown
Putnam's defining feature for excavation is the Quinebaug River cutting through the middle of town. The 1955 flood reshaped how the riverfront is regulated, and floodplain and DEEP setbacks are a real factor on any low-lying parcel near the water. Downtown lots are tight, old, and full of buried mill-era infrastructure, so we work compact and call 811 markouts on everything before the bucket comes out.
Away from the river, Putnam climbs into residential neighborhoods on hillier ground where ledge shows up in basement digs and where sloped lots are good candidates for walkout basements. Whether it's a downtown drainage fix or a hillside septic replacement, we handle Putnam permitting through the town building office and the Northeast District Department of Health, and we know what the local reviewers expect to see.
