Old concrete does not move itself. A cracked driveway, a slab from a long-gone garage, or the foundation left behind after a fire sits there until someone with the right equipment breaks it out and hauls it off. That is straightforward work for us — Roberts Excavation has been removing concrete and foundations for Eastern Connecticut homeowners and builders since 2010, running our own excavators, breakers, and trucks from our base in Plainfield.
The method depends on what you are removing. Slabs, patios, sidewalks, and driveways are broken up, loaded, and hauled in a day or two on most residential jobs. Full foundation removal means excavating around the walls, breaking out the concrete and footings, and hauling everything off site; a partial knockdown, where walls are dropped below grade and buried, is sometimes an option when nothing will be built there. Either way, the hole is backfilled in compacted lifts and rough graded, not just pushed full and left to settle.
Disposal is where concrete jobs are won or lost. Clean concrete is separated and recycled as processed aggregate rather than paying full landfill disposal on it, and rebar and metal are pulled out for scrap. We serve Windham and New London counties, estimates are free, and if the concrete removal is the first phase of a bigger project, we can carry the site straight through to grading or new foundation prep.
