This is precision work; the foundation contractor builds on the grades we leave, so we shoot elevations, hold them, and hand off a hole that matches the plan.

Footings in Connecticut have to bear below frost depth, commonly around 42 inches in this part of the state, with your plans and local building official having the final word. We dig to the engineered depth, bring any over-excavated spots back with compacted structural fill rather than loose soil, and keep the bearing surface undisturbed so the footing inspection passes the first time. Ledge and boulders are a fact of life in local glacial till, so we evaluate for rock before quoting.

Additions bring their own wrinkles: digging tight against an existing foundation without undermining it, protecting utilities that were never mapped, and getting a machine into a backyard. We work carefully close to structures, get CBYD 811 utility marking done before any dig, and coordinate timing with your concrete contractor so the hole isn't sitting open through a week of rain.
