Driveway Excavation

A driveway fails from underneath, not on top. Driveway excavation means cutting the route, boxing out soft material, and building a compacted gravel base with real drainage, and it's what separates a driveway that lasts from one that ruts and heaves every March. Roberts Excavation builds new driveways and rebuilds failed ones for homeowners and builders around Plainfield and the rest of Eastern Connecticut, whether the finished surface will be gravel, asphalt, or pavers.

Frost is the enemy here. Connecticut ground freezes deep in a hard winter, and a driveway base that holds water will heave when it does. We excavate down to sound material, strip out the topsoil and organics that trap moisture, and build the base in compacted lifts of processed gravel, pitched so water sheds off instead of soaking in. Culverts, swales, and drains go in where the lot needs them; most driveway problems we're called to fix turn out to be drainage problems.

Long rural driveways are their own kind of project: route layout through trees and grade changes, clearing, culverts at the low spots, and enough base depth to carry a loaded truck.
