Custom Metal Fabrication

Not everything you need comes off a shelf. Roberts Excavation runs a full welding and fabrication operation alongside its excavation fleet, building custom steel work for farms, contractors, and homeowners across Eastern Connecticut from our Plainfield base. Driveway gates, handrails, equipment guards, compost bay frames, custom brackets, and structural steel for small barn additions all come through the shop — and because we serve everything within about 30 miles, delivery and installation are part of the job when you want them.

We work in steel, stainless, and aluminum, and pick the process — MIG, TIG, stick, or flux core — based on the material and the joint rather than habit. Fabrication starts with a design review so the piece fits your opening, your equipment, or your building before anything gets cut. Lead time on most custom work is typically one to two weeks, depending on the design and the shop schedule.

Because we are excavators first, our fabrication leans practical: pieces built to survive weather, livestock, and equipment contact, not showroom items that fold the first time a tractor bumps them. The company has been owner-operated by DJ Roberts since 2010 and is CT licensed and insured. Estimates are free, and the price is settled after the design review, so you know the number before we strike an arc.
