Building Demolition

When a structure has reached the end of its useful life, taking it down is usually the first real step of whatever comes next. Roberts Excavation demolishes houses, garages, barns, sheds, and small commercial buildings throughout Eastern Connecticut, working out of Plainfield and covering Windham and New London counties within about 30 miles. Owner DJ Roberts has run this work since 2010, and the crew runs its own excavators and trucks, so the takedown, the loading, and the hauling all happen on one schedule.

The part of demolition you never see is what makes it go smoothly. Before anything comes down, utilities have to be disconnected, and we coordinate that with the water, gas, and electric companies so nothing is live when the machine reaches in. Most towns require a demolition permit, and older buildings may need testing for asbestos or lead before they can legally come down. We pull the permit, line up licensed abatement when testing calls for it, and keep the paperwork straight through inspection.

Once the structure is down, we sort the debris instead of landfilling everything. Clean concrete and metal get separated for recycling, which keeps disposal volume down, and the rest is hauled out in our own trucks. The foundation hole is backfilled, the site gets graded, and you are left with ground that is ready for a new build, a driveway, or open lawn.
