Eastern Connecticut gets real water — snowmelt on frozen ground in March, saturated springs, and summer downpours — and plenty of local soils sit over hardpan or ledge that will not let it soak away. Roberts Excavation designs and installs drainage systems for soggy lawns, wet basements, and flooding driveways across the Plainfield area, and has been solving these problems with our own equipment since 2010.
The right fix depends on where the water comes from. Surface water pooling in low spots often needs regrading or a swale before it needs pipe. Subsurface water calls for a French or curtain drain — a fabric-wrapped stone trench with perforated pipe that intercepts flow and carries it to daylight, a dry well, or a catch basin. Around houses, burying downspout lines and correcting grade at the foundation handles a surprising share of wet-basement complaints, and footing drain work covers the rest of what can be done from outside.
Details decide whether a drain works for twenty years or two. Pipe needs continuous pitch to its outlet, stone needs filter fabric to keep soil from plugging it, and outlets need to stay open and above whatever they discharge into. We call CBYD 811 before any digging, restore the lawn over the trench, and quote every system after walking the property during or after wet weather when the problem shows itself. Estimates are free.
