Site Grading & Leveling

Grading is the part of site work nobody notices when it is done right — the yard just drains, the pad is level, and the driveway meets the garage where it should. Roberts Excavation handles rough and finish grading from Plainfield across Windham and New London counties, within about 30 miles of our shop. We have run our own equipment on this work since 2010, from quarter-acre backyard regrades to full building pads for new construction.

Every grading job is really a drainage job. Water needs to move away from foundations, off driveways, and toward somewhere it can go, so we set pitch deliberately instead of just smoothing what is there. On construction sites, we cut and fill to the plan elevations and verify grades with GPS-guided equipment, which lets us match existing grades tightly — important on additions, walkout basements, and driveway tie-ins where a new surface has to meet an old one cleanly.

For homeowners, the common calls are a lawn that holds water, a yard that slopes toward the house, or rough ground left behind by another project. We strip and stockpile topsoil where it is worth saving, shape the subgrade, and spread topsoil back to a seed-ready finish.
